Fairlington is a unique and historically significant community conveniently located just five minutes from downtown Washington, DC. The community was constructed for defense workers and their families by order of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in response to the DC housing shortage brought on by World War II. Nowadays, there are still hundreds of government workers who purchase Fairlington condos for sale.

The areas include Fairlington Glen, Fairlington Villages, Fairlington Commons, Fairlington Green, Fairlington Meadows, Fairlington Mews, and Fairlington Arbor. South Fairlington residents are connected to Shirlington by a pedestrian walkway that crosses the Shirlington Circle interchange with I-395.
